Produced a Broadway play "Revolt" in 1928 but unfortunetly it was a flop.

Dated Jean Harlow for two years before her death in 1937. Her mother forced him to pay the $30,000 for her funeral and for many years Powell made sure that fresh flowers were always present at her grave.

Purchased a 150kt sapphire engagement ring for Jean Harlow that cost $20,000, and gave it her on Christmas of 1936.

His son, William Powell Junior, stabbed himself to death while taking a shower. He left his father, whom he was very close to, a 4 page goodbye letter.

William Powell and baseball player Casey Stengel were in the same class at Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

Though his marriage to Carole Lombard ended in a divorce in 1933, the two remained close friends until her death in 1942.

Alfred Hitchcock asked him to play the role of the Merry Window Murder in 1943's Shadow Of A Doubt, however the executives at MGM opposed this and casted Joseph Cotten instead.

The character Nicky Flippers of the movie Hoodwinked is modeled after Nick Charles, the character from The Thin Man series that William made famous.
